Logo 3JEWISH CURRENTS has had a book publishing imprint for the past three years, Blue Thread. Now we’ve expanded into music publishing. Four titles are now available at our Pushcart at Blue Thread Music. Two are avant-garde interpretations of classic cantorial music: Yoshie Fruchter’s rock-oriented “Schizophonia” — and Jeremiah Lockwood and Frank London’s Songs of Zebulon, inspired by the cantorial music of Zebulon Kwartin — [audio mp3=“https://jewishcurrents.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Leil-Shimurin-14-.mp3”][/audio] A third recording is Daniel Cainer’s wonderful cabaret cycle of hilarious and poignant family tales, Jewish Chronicles — [audio mp3=“https://jewishcurrents.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/10-Surbiton-Washerama.mp3”][/audio] And the fourth is Jake Marmer’s album of voluptuous poetry and jazz, Hermeneutic Stomp BLUE THREAD MUSIC is part of Jewish Currents’ our 69-year-old magazine’s ongoing outreach to young Jews and friends-of-Jews, for whom the New Jewish Music scene is a new Jerusalem. Just as JC experiments with independent, creative interpretations of Judaism and Jewish ethical philosophy, so are these musicians bringing ancient wisdom into new light and new sonic landscapes. If that makes us sound fuddy-duddyish, so be it — but we’re fuddy-duddies with soul!
