September 23, 2012

A worldwide campaign to get all Jews to pray for the arrival of Moshiakh (the messiah) has September 23rd, 2012 as its target date, with 5:00 PM Israel time (11 AM in New York, 8 AM Los Angeles, 5 PM Paris, etc.) as the moment of utterance. We are instructed by the many sponsoring rabbis to give tsedoke first and then to say, in any language: “Master of the Universe, We, the children of Israel, ask you to send Moshiakh to redeem us, now and with mercy, from exile and all suffering, to reveal your Name in the world and to bring peace.” To see a video about the great day, click here. If you slept late, not to worry: Moshiakh, says the Talmud (Sanhedrin 98a), is already at the gates of Rome, “sitting among the poor who are stricken with leprosy . . . wrapping their bandages one by one.”
“All the calculated dates of redemption have passed, and now the matter depends upon repentance and good deeds.” Talmud, Sanhedrin 97b
One article about the event claimed that two million Jews worldwide participated.
