Quimetta Perle, a contributing artist and poet to the 2013 Jewish Currents Arts Calendar, has performed at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Roulette, St. Marks Poetry Project, NYU’s Loew Theater and Renssellaer Polytechnic Institute, streamed in live performance over the internet, and embedded in art installations. Her mixed media work, digital prints and artists books have been featured in twelve solo shows and numerous group exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe, and blasted into space from the Marshall Space Flight Center in a deep space probe. Perle has collaborated on many multimedia pieces with luminaries in the jazz world and with her late husband, spoken word artist and composer Tyrone Henderson. She works for Healing Arts Initiative in Long Island City, directing an arts workshop program, studio and gallery for people with mental disabilities.
