An Evening of Ladino Song

Monday
June 15, 2026

Join Jewish CurrentsMycelium Choral Project, and the Egalitarian Sefardi Mizrahi Kehilla of NYC on Monday, June 15th at 7pm at The Urbane Arts Club for an evening of socialist Ladino song—where you sing too!

This past winter, we published a new history of what Sephardic studies scholar Devin E. Naar has termed the “Ladino Left,” the loose collection of Ottoman-born radicals active in New York City in the early 20th century. It also featured a six-song excerpt from a 1919 Ladino Socialist Songbook. Presumably, Naar writes, “the Sephardic Branch’s sympathizers had requested Ladino versions of socialist songs to chant during marches or on the picket line, to make their voices heard in their own language.”

Together with Naar, editor-at-large Arielle Angel, and seasoned song guides, we will learn about and sing these radical tunes of the past in an effort to reclaim them for our present.
