April 24: The Beatles, Almost

Lorne Michaels (Lorne David Lipowitz), the creator of Saturday Night Live, made an offer to the Beatles $3,000 to reunite on his show on this date in 1976. As it happened, Paul McCartney was visiting John Lennon in New York for the last time in Lennon’s life, and after watching the skit (during which Michaels upped the offer to $3,200), the pair nearly went to the NBC studios before deciding that they were too tired.
