Jewish Currents has helped to organize a Jewish Working Group to End the New Jim Crow, which includes a task force within the Woodstock Jewish Congregation, T’ruah (formerly Rabbis for Human Rights—North America), and JFREJ (Jews for Racial and Economic Justice). This Working Group has promised three products: a Passover Haggadah supplement, a Jewish study guide to Michelle Alexander’s book, The New Jim Crow, and a traveling exhibit that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Mississippi Freedom Summer, 1964 and draws links between the old Jim Crow and the new.
Click here to see a pdf of the Haggadah supplement, written by six women, including five rabbis. It introduces something new to the seder plate: a lock and key. Please use the supplement at your seders, listen to the linked songs, view the linked presentations by Michelle Alexander, give us your feedback — and get in touch with our Jewish Working Group to End the New Jim Crow.
We’ll post news about the study guide and the traveling exhibit in the days to come.
