Join Jewish Currents on Wednesday, October 29th, at 6:30 pm at DCTV Firehouse Cinema in NYC for a screening of River of Grass, a new documentary about Florida’s Everglades from interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker Sasha Wortzel. After the screening, Jewish Currents editor-in-chief Arielle Angel will moderate a Q&A with Sasha Wortzel and activist Betty Osceola.
River of Grass is an ode to the Florida Everglades, told through the stories of the late Marjory Stoneman Douglas and those who call the region home today. In the wake of a hurricane, Douglas visits Wortzel in a dream, catalyzing a journey across the Everglades with Miccosukee educator and activist Betty Osceola. The film reveals how this country’s origin story haunts and shapes contemporary American life, while asking how we might weather coming storms better together.
River of Grass premiered at True/False, played festivals worldwide, and won awards at Hot Docs and Margaret Mead FF.
This is an in-person event at DCTV Firehouse Cinema at 87 Lafayette Street, New York, NY. The film runs 83 minutes, and will be followed by a Q&A. There will be no livestream. The venue is wheelchair-accessible without prior arrangement.
