We’re excited to announce a week-long run of our first-ever short documentary, Scenes from the Divide by Alison Klayman, from March 17-23 at IFC in New York City. The film premiered as part of DOC NYC’s Winter Selects festival—and is back by popular demand!
In the lead-up to Zohran Mamdani’s election as mayor of New York City, many of the city’s Jewish leadership, as well as pundits and politicians, worked overtime arguing that the candidate’s history of support for Palestine represented a threat to Jews. By inviting viewers into the homes of New Yorkers on both sides of the campaign, Scenes from the Divide unsettles this familiar story. Rather than a controversy over a particular election or candidate, the film reveals a fierce battle among American Jews over identity, history, and responsibility. Scenes from the Divide explores the story behind the story, uncovering a fraught struggle within a rapidly transforming community.
Several nights will include post-screening discussions with the filmmaker and JC writers; check screening times on the IFC site for more information.
