‘Scenes from the Divide’ Premiere at DOC NYC Winter Selects Festival
In the lead-up to Zohran Mamdani’s election as mayor of New York City, many of the city’s Jewish leadership, as well as pundits and politicians, worked overtime arguing that the candidate’s history of support for Palestine represented a threat to Jews. By inviting viewers into the homes of New Yorkers on both sides of the campaign, Scenes from the Divide unsettles this familiar story. Rather than a controversy over a particular election or candidate, the film reveals a fierce battle among American Jews over identity, history, and responsibility. Scenes from the Divide explores the story behind the story, uncovering a fraught struggle within a rapidly transforming community.
The film premieres Tuesday, February 24th at 7 pm as part of DOC NYC Winter Selects festival at IFC, 323 6th Ave, NY. Following the screening, director Alison Klayman will be in conversation with Jewish Currents editor-in-chief Arielle Angel and publisher Daniel May.
