Only days after Trump ordered the bombing of Iran, it’s impossible to know just how bad things will get. As the president contemplates “regime change,” Israel continues to bomb Iran, Iranian missiles fly into Israel, and Iran strikes US bases in Qatar in retaliation. The rest of the Middle East braces for more war, while the world awaits the economic chaos that escalation between the US and Iran may bring. Many have noted the similarities to the invasion of Iraq, recalling the dubious intelligence and the catastrophic human toll for Iraqis. And those who have called for an end to Israel’s campaign of starvation and bombing of Palestine now watch in dismay as the media turns its focus from Gaza, where Israeli forces continue to kill Palestinians lining up for food aid.
To help make sense of the circumstances, join Jewish Currents this Wednesday, June 25th at 10:15am ET for an exclusive, members-only conversation between editor-at-large Peter Beinart and former US Special Envoy to Iran Robert Malley. Together, Robert and Peter will discuss the urgent questions provoked by the attacks. What led us to this moment? What possible scenarios lay ahead? What are the implications for Palestine and the ongoing assault on Gaza? How are the Democrats responding—and how should they respond?
This virtual event is for Jewish Currents sustaining members only. In addition to our print and digital subscriptions, Jewish Currents now has a membership program.
