Jewish Currents is excited to invite members to a virtual screening of our first-ever film, Scenes from the Divide by Alison Klayman, on Tuesday, May 12th at 7 pm via the online video platform, Kinema. A post-screening discussion with director Alison Klayman and film subject Nicole Krishtul will be moderated by Jewish Currents editor-at-large Peter Beinart.
In the lead-up to Zohran Mamdani’s election as mayor of New York City, many of the city’s Jewish leadership, as well as pundits and politicians, worked overtime arguing that the candidate’s history of support for Palestine represented a threat to Jews. By inviting viewers into the homes of New Yorkers on both sides of the campaign, Scenes from the Divide unsettles this familiar story. Rather than a controversy over a particular election or candidate, the film reveals a fierce battle among American Jews over identity, history, and responsibility. Scenes from the Divide explores the story behind the story, uncovering a fraught struggle within a rapidly transforming community.
This event is exclusive and free for Jewish Currents sustaining members. The documentary runs 32 minutes, and will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A. Once you register through the Jewish Currents member portal, you will receive a link from Kinema to sign up for the screening. You’ll need to create a free Kinema account. If you run into any issues, please contact Kinema customer support, or email us at events@jewishcurrents.org.
Please note the film will begin exactly at 7 pm. A virtual screening room will open up at 6:30 pm. We recommend joining 10 minutes early to ensure you are settled in time for the film to begin.
