Call for Pitches: The Florida Issue
Jewish Currents is still considering pitches for our Winter 2023 themed issue, which will focus on the state of Florida. Please email pitches, tips, or finished work to submissions@jewishcurrents.org with the subject line FLORIDA ISSUE: [description of pitch].
Jewish Currents invites pitches for our Winter 2023 themed issue, which will focus on the state of Florida. We are looking for reported features, investigations, profiles, conversations, and essays. Send us stories of fascism in exile and the people swimming against the communal current. On the links between the Sunshine State and the Israeli settler movement. On Florida as right-wing haven and laboratory. On the backlash to anti-racist pedagogy. On the old Jewish left of Miami Beach. On Haredi nightlife. On drag. Send us dispatches from diasporic strongolds, the art fair underbelly, crypto fantasia, and the climate catastrophe. Send us the polyrhythmic and the multilingual. Send us the lowbrow, the ostentatious, the wingnutty and depraved. Send us stories from the heart of brightness, from places no one’s ever heard of. Send tips, even if you can’t write the piece yourself.
Proposals for relevant book reviews, artist profiles, and other criticism are welcome. We will also review full drafts of creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and comics, as well as visual art, photo essays, and infographics. If you send us a story about your grandmother in West Palm it better be the best thing ever written.
If you are a younger activist and you’d like to interview an older activist whose work has centered on Florida for our “Office Hours” column, please pitch us.
Please email pitches, tips, or finished work to submissions@jewishcurrents.org with the subject line FLORIDA ISSUE: [description of pitch]. Pitches should answer not just the “what?” of the piece, but also “why” “why now?” and “why you?”
