Hello dear readers,
I’m writing to let you know that this week, I’ll be starting a four-month sabbatical that will conclude in early March. I haven’t taken a break like this in the almost seven years that I’ve worked at Jewish Currents, and naturally there is a fair amount of trepidation—as much about how I’m going to function outside of Jewish Currents as how Jewish Currents is going to function without me. But the team has been preparing for this for the last few months, learning new skills and thinking beyond their usual roles. I’m confident that this period will be one of growth for the organization, as different staff members step into new leadership roles that will expand the magazine’s capacity into the future. On that note, I’m pleased to announce that our executive editor Nora Caplan-Bricker—in many ways the rock of this organization—will be the acting editor-in-chief for the next four months. I hope you’ll join me in welcoming her.
These last years have been as rewarding as they have been exhausting. I am really proud that Jewish Currents is a workplace that allows for the possibility of extended rest in the form of a sabbatical (a guarantee to our staff, negotiated through their union contracts). I’m eager to see how the experience changes me, as well as the organization.
Thanks for being a part of the community of this magazine. See you in the spring!
Arielle Angel
