Israel’s attacks on Lebanon have entered their deadliest phase over the past week. Last Tuesday, an Israeli operation blew up thousands of pagers across Lebanon, injuring over 3,000. And on Monday, Israel began airstrikes that have already killed over 500 people in Lebanon—a level of destruction not seen since the end of that country’s civil war. As Israel’s bombings continue and Hezbollah launches rockets into Israel, a full-blown regional conflagration appears to have begun.
To learn more about these developments, join Jewish Currents editor-at-large Peter Beinart in conversation with Rami Khouri, who is the director of global engagement at the American University of Beirut, a fellow at the Arab Center in Washington, DC, a contributor to Al Jazeera, and the former editor of Beirut’s newspaper Daily Star. Beinart and Khouri will talk about the history and politics of Lebanon, Israel’s attacks on the country, and the escalating regional war.
