The Sid Resnick Historical Archive

Our Sid Resnick Historical Archive covers the period from the magazine’s founding as Jewish Life in 1946 through 2002. The articles are organized alphabetically by topic and presented in PDF. For complete back issues in PDF, see the chronological listing at the bottom of this page.

Sid Resnick was a long-time member of our magazine’s Editorial Advisory Council and a frequent contributor of essays and translations. He worked closely with the Yiddish-language Morning Freiheit for many years as a writer and a key translator for the newspaper’s English edition. Sid earned his living as a printer for many years. Later in his career, he worked in the library of the Yale University Law School, was active in the successful drive to unionize Yale’s clerical and technical staff in 1984, and was a founding member of the retirees association. For over twenty years, Sid chaired the Yale-New Haven “Yiddish Leyen Kreiz,” a weekly intergenerational reading group. He was also active in Brit Tzedek V’Shalom, New Jewish Agenda, and other organizations devoted to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — a solution that would respect the humanity and dignity of those on both sides of the conflict. The Yiddish language and the secular Jewish radical movement were central to Sid’s life. For over 50 years, he was also active in the civil rights and peace movements in New Haven.

The Sid Resnick Archive was established by Sid’s family, and is being steadily built as a comprehensive archive of our magazine’s articles since 1946.
