Winston Churchill published an article in the Illustrated Sunday Herald on this date in 1920 titled “Zionism versus Bolshevism,” in which he called upon the Jews, a “people of peculiar genius,” to opt for being “national Jews,” not “international Jews,” i.e., communists — “world-wide conspira[tors] for the overthrow of civilization and for the reconstitution of society on the basis of arrested development, of envious malevolence, and impossible equality.” “The conflict between good and evil which proceeds unceasingly in the breast of man,” wrote Churchill, “nowhere reaches such an intensity as in the Jewish race. The dual nature of mankind is nowhere more strongly or more terribly exemplified. We owe to the Jews in the Christian revelation a system of ethics which, even if it were entirely separated from the supernatural, would be incomparably the most precious possession of mankind . . . And it may well be that this same astounding race may at the present time be in the actual process of producing another system of morals and philosophy, as malevolent as Christianity was benevolent, which, if not arrested, would shatter irretrievably all that Christianity has rendered possible. It would almost seem as if the gospel of Christ and the gospel of Antichrist were destined to originate among the same people; and that this mystic and mysterious race had been chosen for the supreme manifestations, both of the divine and the diabolical.” See the complete text.

The White Paper, passed by Britain’s Parliament in 1939, severely restricted the immigration of Jews to the British Mandate of Palestine. I believe Churchill voted against it. But Churchill was Prime Minister during World War II, when Jews were being slaughtered. Couldn’t Churchill have opened the gates to those Jews who had managed to get out of Europe?
Well, yes, but this was the same Churchill who would NEVER have given up the Mandate for Palestine; (he was out of office by then) and quite possibly opposed the Balfour Declaration (except that he wasn’t in the World War I Cabinet at the time it was issued. I don’t even know if he ever knew any Jewish people! They were quite theoretical for him. Much as I admire him for all of his other good British Imperial policies and for sure; he was Britain’s secret weapon in World War II, prescient about Hitler when no one else would speak out against him.
Also – a little suspect, don’t you think? – ‘Bolshevik Jews’? Not – some Jews who might favor the Bolshevik ideology? And nothing in the middle? Most Jews, according to my knowledge, rejected both Zionism (to their tragedy as they refused to go to Palestine when it might still have been possible) and Bolshevism. During WWI, Churchill continued as First Lord of the Admiralty, a post he held before the war. He was sacked following the disastrous Gallipoli Campaign, which he had sponsored. When he re-entered government following the war he was directly responsible for the bombing of innocent defenseless Iraqis unmercifully in order to subjugate them, beating Bill Clinton in doing so by about 75 years.
Earlier he had been one of the British officers repressing the people of India. He followed that with armed repression against the people of Sudan. He and his fellow Brits killed about 10,000 in one battle and wounded another 13,000 and then went about killing the wounded.
He followed that with participation in the British conquest of South Africa.
In parliament, he was active in the eugenics movement proposing the forced sterilization of those he deemed “unfit”.
Following WWI, he was again in government and in charge of foreign affairs, he ordered British troops to invade Russia.
In the early 1920s, he advocated the use of poison gas against the Kurds. When this barbarity was not approved he turned his attention to an alternative form of barbarity — bombing defenseless people which was approved and then carried out.
He was then appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer a post akin to the USA’s Secretary of the Treasury. His decision to return Britain to the gold standard was criticized by John Maynard Keynes who predicted it would lead to a major worldwide economic depression — which of course it did.
When coal miners and others went on strike in 1926, Churchill wanted to use machine guns against the strikers but evidently was overruled. He then became a fan of Mussolini calling him the “Roman genius… the greatest lawgiver among men.” His praise was motivated by his perception that Mussolini knew how to repress workers.
During the 1930s, while out of government, he advocated a change in the voting laws, taking away the right to vote from most people and only allowing the propertied classes to vote. He lost on that issue.
He opposed Gandhi suggesting that if he went on a hunger strike — he should die. He started the India Defence League an organization dedicated to keeping India subjugated. His attacks on Gandhi were relentless.
Churchill’s government during WWII was largely responsible for the deaths of 3 million people in Bengal who died as a result of inaction during a famine. Churchill refused to provide food to those starving even after British officials in India demanded that he do so.
When the Japanese invaded Manchuria in the 1930s, he supported the Japanese.
He supported Franco’s overthrow of the Spanish Republic. It seems it was hard for him to find a fascist he didn’t praise.
In his1935 essay “Hitler and his Choice”, Churchill expressed a hope that Hitler, might yet “go down in history as the man who restored honour and peace of mind to the great Germanic nation and brought it back serene, helpful and strong to the forefront of the European family circle”.
Churchill was the director of the bombing of the civilian populations of Dresden and other German cities. An impartial observer would conclude that he was guilty of war crimes in doing so, He had previously ordered the firebombing of the civilians in Hamburg in 1943, another crime against humanity. His terror bombing of German civilians provided the reason for the Germans developing the rockets used against Britain toward the end of the war. The Germans named them ‘vengeance’ rockets to note their desire to seek revenge for the British (and American) attacks on German civilians.
Before being removed from office by British voters, Churchill ordered the creation of a plan to attack the Soviet Union in July 1945. The plan included using the remnants of the German army that had been captured as part of the army to attack the Soviet Union. Luckily the plan was killed by British military officers who judged it to not be winnable.
When Churchill returned to office in 1951, he ordered the attacks against the people of Kenya, followed by the attacks against the people of Malaysia.
And finally, throughout WWII he along with FDR, refused to support the Germans who were trying to eliminate Hitler, instead making the task almost impossible by demanding unconditional surrender. This undermined the continued organization of anti-Nazi forces in Germany who wanted to kill Hitler, overthrow his government and then negotiate and end to the war. Churchill did everything he could to instead continue the killing as long as possible. Estimates are that he and FDR were responsible for another 5 – 10 million deaths due to this position including countless Jews who were killed by the Nazis in the last year or so of WWII.
All in all, one of the most despicable men in human history.
For anyone who might bristle at the idea of Bob Cartwright calling Churchill “one of the most despicable men in human history,” I suggest you pick up a copy of Exterminate All the Brutes : One Man’s Odyssey into the Heart of Darkness and the Origins of European Genocide by: Sven Lindqvist. An excellent, slim, well-written book that reveals Churchill for the bone-deep racist that he was.

CHURCHILL’S MOTHER WAS JEW….people are so un informed
The only claim that Churchill’s mother, born Jennie Jerome, was Jewish (at least on her father’s side) comes from a 1993 Jerusalem Post article by Moshe Kohn. More authoritative sources, however, argue that the family name “Jerome” existed since an immigrant named Timothy Jerome — a Huguenot — arrived in America in 1717.
I am not a Jew, but I am a friend and admirer of the Jewish people. I am a Brit and a
Navy veteran (Royal Navy) of WW2. I was directly affected by the war from the day it started in the fall of 1939, and a participant in the armed struggle from the Spring of 1943 until the Japanese surrender.
Everything that Bob Cartwright has to say about Churchill is substantially true and accurate. Churchill was a natural born reactionary monarchist at heart. In another time
and another place he could have been every bit as dangerous as Hitler proved to be. It
was — in a way — our good fortune that he was born and raised an Englishman and
constrained by the somewhat benign qualities of the British political system. Churchill’s saving grace was his absolute mastery of the English language, for which he will be deservedly long remembered.
Rita, it is hardly likely that Churchill’s mother had Jewish antecedents, especially if the
thinking is based on the suspicion that the name Jerome is somewhat Semitic. The name derives from the Greek language and was Latinized during the rise of the
Christian Church. I believe the Roman Catholic Church celebrates a Saint Jerome,
and the name or other variations will not be unknown or unrecognized in Spain and probably the South of France. On top of that, bigotry and anti-semitism is not unknown in the upper reaches of the English class system. Generally speaking, just socializing with someone of the Jewish faith would be a scandal; marriage a social death sentence. Winston’s father had enough problems, social and otherwise. He was a
syphilitic wastrel and failed politician and no sensible Jewish girl would have wanted
any part of him!
